Great Christian Romance. No worries about foul language, explicit sexual content, or extreme violence. Great plot line and believable characters from the very beginning. Portrait photographer Laurie is trying to make it on her own. A break-in and vandalism bring Detective Tuck into the picture. Trying to find the thief and the connection between other crimes is the key plot. I didn't suspect who the culprit was. Worthwhile read.
This book was very well written. Not only did I really like the Christian faith that was brought out in the book, by the characters dealing with every day life, but also that the characters did not forget to remember to place their relationships in God's hands, even through trials. Sometimes it takes us humans awhile to remember that, but eventually we all pray that we return to God.I also really liked, that there were not a lot of grammar mistakes in this writing. More e-books that come about, have misspelled words, and incorrect use of words. I did not notice any in this book. Great job!Very entertaining, well thought out plot and kept me interested throughout the book!
This was a wonderful, sweet love story about two people finding love and overcoming fears to let it happen. Laurie is determined to make it on her own and hesitates to accept help from anyone. Tuck, a police officer, is accustomed to helping people in trouble and instinctively reaches out to her, though his feelings for her scare him and remind him of past pain. It's a wonderful tribute to police officers who sacrifice for others and genuinely care about helping their community. The romance was sweet and clean and I found the characters very real and lovable. I love reading romance that isn't graphic. I first got this book's Kindle version. When I read a Kindle book that I really love, I buy the paperback. I got this paperback!
This was a lovely romance with an element of suspense and danger, too. Tuck the heartbroken cop is a new favorite character now, and how his relationship with Laurie the kind-hearted photographer develops was so realistic and wonderful, I could NOT stop reading this book until I finished it in less than a day. If you like clean romance with a spiritual bent, and loveable secondary characters, you must read this book!
Laurie's car and photography studio suffer break-ins, dragging her into a dangerous situation, and into frequent contact with policeman Tuck.(Though reviews are inherently subjective, I prefer to provide some organization to my opinions through the use of a personal rubric. The following notes may contain spoilers.)Plot and Setting: 4 -- Plot has unique elements and no major holes, but a few shaky bits. The police investigation seemed a bit off. Why would they be comparing data as a family, rather than Tuck and Lance at work? And why did they wait so long to run the names from the doctor by Laurie? Also, less than 2 months from meeting to being engaged seems rather fast. Setting is clear and believable. Timeline may be a bit hard to follow. A few parts confused me, and I'm not sure if it was just unclear or actually wrong, but we seemed to skip or repeat days at a few points.Characters: 3.5 -- Main characters are relatable, realistic, interesting, and somewhat dynamic. Laurie has strength even while dealing with difficult circumstances, and Tuck is protective and caring. Some minor characters have depth, while others may be slightly stereotyped or simplified. I felt like we only very vaguely got to know most characters, with hints at depth for Serenity and Lexi. Gideon was described wonderfully, though, with loving affection for the struggles and joys of his life. Relationships between characters are not especially well developed, but what is there is generally good. Hints of good family relationships, but Tuck and Laurie are engaged so fast!Mechanics and Writing: 4 -- A handful of typos, punctuation issues, or word errors, but nothing that seriously hinders understanding. Good use of POV (Tuck and Laurie). Generally skillful writing, with a few bits that were slightly confusing in how they were written.Redeeming Value: 3.5 -- Incidental uplifting themes or lessons. Laurie is establishing herself on her own, and she connects to special needs children in a wonderful way. Tuck learns to not compare Laurie to his ex, but to trust that if God has called him to be a cop, then he is in the best place. Sex, alcohol, violence, etc, are not glorified, but some shaky ground, eg: lots of guns. I am not a fan of guns myself, and always hesitate a bit at the idea of people having them around "for protection." But they do focus on making sure Laurie is trained in safety, etc, and use a gun safe, so that's positive. Mixed feelings. Also, both Tuck and Laurie seem to have a solid prayer life, but there's never mention of church. Why?Personal Enjoyment: 4 -- I liked it a lot. Highly enjoyable and very entertaining, with perhaps an issue or two that tempered my pleasure. I’d enjoy reading it again.
This is a clean romance/mystery that was predictable right from the start as far as the romance part. The mystery part provided at least some action to keep me interested enough to finish. Someone breaks into Laurie’s photography studio twice. She falls for the cop on the case and gets a gun for protection. This book actually showed what the work of a professional photographer involves which I enjoyed. Overall, the shallowness of the characters and the predictability of the plot made it a mediocre book for me. This is Book 1 in the Love's Compass series which I may or may not continue.
Finding Peace is a well written book both interesting and entertaining. It's about a fiercely independent single woman named Laurie. She is a professional photographer with her own business, striving to be on her own financially even though her wealthy parents want to help. She has only one sister living and working in New York, a long way from her in Texas. A chain of events begins happening one could easily call a string of bad luck. Her car gets broken into, her studio also broken into and her laptop and other equipment stolen. When she calls the police two young, rather handsome young single men answer the call. One of them, Tuck, is especially drawn to Laurie and visa versa. Further adversity and events bring them together regularly as if someone was actually arranging their lives to coincide. A special relationship builds, not only between Laurie and Tuck but also his unique family. You will want to read this work of suspense, mystery, intrigue and romance to see just how it unfolds for yourself.
