Good story of a group of Security Policemen sent back in time to 1862. It is nice to see somebody write a story about SP, and not call them Air Police or sky cops!!!
Wow does that bring back the '80's! An interesting reminder of how very different the USA and the military were post-Vietnam. Key plot points were never explained, and the ending was a bit flat. The story was engaging and the characters well-developed.
I found the book fairly interesting but the constant changes in point of view and the tense structure threw me off. I’d suggest the author attend a few writing seminars and improve his command of the written language.
The story was just the right mix and degree of history, science fiction and military action as to not be off putting to casual readers of those genres … remaining relatable and engaging to the end.
Being a former USAF Security Policeman myself I was intrigued reading an accurate depiction of what the career was like in the '80s. Mark truly has a knack for storytelling and does a great job transporting the reader back to the Civil War as well as the early '80s. Every reader should consider him/herself as a volunteer in the Clio Project when they begin reading and enjoy the ride. The tale brought back memories for me and was very entertaining. Definitely looking forward to the next book.
I could tell that Mark was an USAF veteran. More so, that he was a Defender... Being on guard duty for long hours a person has to stay alert. No better way then to create a great sci-fi yarn I hope he writes more. The adventures of SMSgt Rees and his men.
Good premise. The author had the irritating style of using the "third person" tense too frequently, it made for disjointed reading.
Great story and a real page turner. Read it in one day and thoroughly enjoyed the plot and twists.
