Ray is referred as one of the gods from the investing world but I didn't think he would have so much insight in actually building a business and aligning oneself to a business. His core message of ""struggling well"" doing ""meaningful work with meaningful people"" really hit home for me and it's a message I'm relaying to all my business partners and employees. I'm still waiting for executive growth to publish the audio version so I can listen when I drive but either way I enjoyed reading the whole book in about two hours.
In the past I have become so attached to my goals that any hiccup really affects me emotionally and disheartens me to the point of either lowering my goals or outright quitting. Dalio's approach of taking a step back and seeing your goals as grounded on reality and a set of fundamentals to get there made a lot of sense to me. Basically he recommends to think like an engineer and not take any failure as personal just an inevitable step on the learning path. Great book overall!
I work like a mad man in wall street taking care of my daily responsibilities but I still have to seem "worldly" to my senior partners. Long story short, everyone has been praising Ray Dalio and this summary was my express ticket to worldly conversations about the book.
The ideas are very practical and grounded in reality. In fact, reality is one of the main tenants of Dalio's principles. Dalio explains that we feel pain when our expectations are not aligned with reality and we are doing something unaligned. If we can uncover the principle at play we don't need to keep feeling the pain and move up in life. Awesome read and clearly recommend to anyone a bit intimidated by the full book.
While tech is a completely different industry than finance Dalio's principles are still applicable. I found the principle of complete and utter transparency and open-mindedness as a game changer since in tech we also need the best ideas to float to the top without getting obscured with office politics or vanity. I would surely recommend to other tech colleagues as well.
I'm searching for a position in the hedge fund industry and have always heard of Bridgewater Associates as the mecca of hedge funds. I decided to read the summary quickly before an interview and it actually came up - I think I got to the second round because of it! So yes, great summary!
In the finance industry Dalio is seen as a god..however, working in the industry does not give me too much free time to read large books like Dalio's. I listened to his audiobook on my commute to the office and I've used this summary to tie it all together.
Dalio's description of the "looping" path to success opened my eyes immediately and let's me see to not attach myself to failure, that it's not personal, it's just a principle of reality that I have yet to uncover. Just with this epiphany the summary book was worth it!
